Arctic Venture is Yuri Klaver’s journey of discovery through five million square miles of wilderness, on foot, by skis and kayak.

The record-breaking expedition starts in Nome and leads through the Brooks Range, along the Arctic Ocean coast, through Canada to Greenland, over 6000 kilometers.

  • In 2012, on his way from Russia to the United States, Yuri was “saved” after a week by Russian border guards. Read the impression here.
  • In 2013 he paddled two months along the most dangerous sea in the world, and then went upstream the Noatak River for two months, far into the very remote Brooks Range.
  • In 2014 Yuri became the first man ever to cross the Brooks Range in northern Alaska from coast to coast, by going up a river on skis, crossing a mountain pass and paddle down Colville River to the Arctic Ocean. Read the press release.
  • In 2015 Yuri reached the Canadian town of Paulatuk, after a 2.500 kilometer journey along the Arctic coastline of Alaska and Canada. Read the press release.

In March 2016 Yuri continues his expedition, to get into Canada over the polar ice as far as possible. In 2017 he aims to reach Greenland.
